Destiny volunteers: volunteer work in Ghana, Africa

Home > Voluntreers Zone > What You Will Be Doing

Volunteering projects of Destiny Volunteers has no standard requirement regarding education or work experience so lets all get involved to improve the conditions of the deprived communities.

Volunteers will either be working in clinis/hospitals or to improve the health and health knowledge in deprived communities, working in groups; or working as a teaching volunteer in education at a school, student exchange program, construction, research, environmental projects, intercultural programs, agricultural/farm etc. Please specify what kind of volunteering you would like to do on your application form.

Although we have tried to outline the particulars of the projects below, please understand that the exact projects are subject to change, according to the needs and wishes of the local communities, local authorities and those in the volunteer group.
Accommodation for the projects may be as follows,

  • Host Family home stays with a dedicated Ghanaian Families most recommended.
  • Stay with a single Ghanaian.
  • Camping system.
These two are the main systems of accommodation but others may choose to stay in a hostel/hotel if only you wish to cater for your own charges there.

But we recommend host family home stays for volunteers to help foster cross-culture exchange.

Health Volunteers
There will be a day{s} training course on the health issues to be covered (chosen by local health officials as a priority for educating the community about) and on how the health education should be done in the communities. We will live as a mixed group (Ghanaians and Foreign volunteers) and during the day we will be divided into four or five as each group will need to have a group discussion on the health areas taught after each day of the training at their own desire or arrange time.

Again, each group will be assigned to a particular path or direction to take in the community. Methods include visiting schools and houses, talking to individuals and groups and using drawings and writing on health issues on paper/ cardboard by volunteers to help in the community education. There will be a mass education/communication to the community at an open place like parks, community centers with video show on the health issues to be covered before or getting to the end of the camp. Each group will present a daily report and at the end of each week there will be a general volunteers meeting to know the different ideas and suggestions to achieve the maximum goal.

Furthermore, volunteering projects may be in the form of working directly in the clinics of the deprived communities or volunteering in hospitals as your school clinical project or helping build clinics or health centers.

We welcome nationals from all over the globe in this cultural program either groups or individuals.

Environment
This is a move to help make Ghana green and to have good climate conditions. There are a lot places which has been degradable because of construction, illegal tree cutting, bush fires, and other bad practice which has made it possible for intense sunshine and no or little rain fall as rain water is the main dependant of most farmers in Ghana. We can achieve a better environmental practice by planting more trees, educating the people about the need to replace and cut down tree and the importance of making Ghana green.

This involve your time, strength, knowledge and much more in teaching, caring and other more work at the orphanages. Show your love to this home and we belief  there will be great personalities in future from this home.

Entertainment
It is a very important aspect, as it will refresh volunteers after a hard days work. Volunteers may decide on when to have their entertainment and the rich Ghanaian Cultural experience, which normally is at night and especially on weekends.
